Precursory Admonition: Beggars can’t be choosers. So they are as grateful for Uncle Ben’s rice in their bowls as Costco jasmine. “Don’t judge a rice box by its cover,” they’ll tell you. Symbols are so superficial. If I ever hang a flag outside my house again, it will be unfurled upside down — where it serves the truest purpose it can these days: as an international symbol for emergency. Although it’s June, I can still signal “May Day,” if you catch my drift.

I have a red wheelbarrow in my back yard. Friends think it is for gardening. But it’s a gift from Marcel Duchamp who is signaling his agreement…
